BIOLEACHINGMECHANISM OF SULFIDE MINERAL BY ACIDOPHILIC MESOPHILIC BACTERIA

Abstract:

bioleaching of sulfide minerals is now an established indust ral technology for pretreating ref rectory gold concent rates and for ext raction of copper. The development and optimization of these processes requires and clear understanding of mechanism and kinetics. There is still not a generally accepted mechanism for bio-oxidation of sulfides. It is the purpose of this paper to review recent development in the mechanism research in the view of chemist ry , elect rochemist ry and molecular genetics. The chemical reactions and oxidation pathways of sulfur moiety , the elect rochemical basis , the essential component s of the iron and sulfur oxidation system and elect ron t ransport chain are briefly summarized.
